Welcome to 2007! Many of us know the importance of keeping a healthy weight and lowering our A1Cs to a target of under 7.0. But many of us have difficultly doing so. The OC New Me Challenge is a fun way to work together to achieve our goals! This isn't a competition, just a personal challenge to lose weight and/or lower the A1C and hopefully also win some fun stuff in the process.

What is the OC New Me Challenge?
A yearlong challenge to lose weight or lower an A1C value.
How does it work?
People will sign up from December 29 thru January 7. They will send what their goal is (weight or A1C or both), what they are currently at, and how much they are wagering that they can reach their goal by the end of the year. Minimum $5. Deposit made via Paypal or mailed check.
Every two weeks, people will send in digital pictures of their weight on a scale or of their blood glucose meter 14-day average to show their progress. Benchmarks and monthly drawings will also qualify people to win books, CDs, giftcards and other exciting prizes!
People who reach their goal by December 31 will receive their money back. If they don't, the money goes to the Winners Fund and split evenly to those who met their goal.
Can I quit during the year?
Yes and no. No one can force you to lose weight or lower an A1C value.
If you decide to quit before January 14, you will receive a full refund on your wager.
If you decide to quit between January 15 and July 31, your wager will be donated to the nonprofit of your choice.
If you decide to quit after July 31, your wager goes into the Winners Fund.
This is to help keep people motivated and not quit just because it gets hard!
I could lose weight by June. Why can't I just stop then or why isn't the challenge ending then?
The reason we are doing the competition for the entire year is to promote a lifestyle change, and not a quick fix to win some cash or prizes. We're in this for the long haul and we want to make sure that goals can be met and kept.
How do you keep track of progress?
Through a combination of digital pictures and the honor system. Every two weeks, people will send in digital pictures of their scale or the two-week average on their meter. This also helps qualify people to win prizes.My daughter/son/ brother/sister/ partner has diabetes, not me. Can I still enter the O.C. New Me Challenge?
Yes. There will be three section for the OC New Me Challenge, people with diabetes who are losing weight, PWDs who are lowing their A1C, and parents who are losing weight.
